The Technologies of the Future and How They Affect the Workplace
The technology is changing the world at a rapid rate. From smartphones to robots, we’re always connected and in contact at all times. Communication is no longer face-toface or written in handwriting, but instant and immediate via a myriad of channels, including voice assistants, text, and video calls.
Technology has changed our lives in a variety of ways, increasing the quality of life from generation to generation. However, it’s not without dangers, particularly when it involves jobs. Many people are worried that new technologies will replace human jobs and this could happen to some extent. But we know from past experience that the loss of certain jobs is offset by the creation of new, better jobs.
We are already seeing this happening in the workplace due to advancements in artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and robotics. We are also seeing the impact of drones as well as 5G networks, blockchains, and quantum computing.
These technologies will revolutionise the business process with increased levels of automation, connectivity and security. Blockchains, for instance are changing supply chains by making them more secure and offering unalterable transactions histories. And 5G will allow businesses to process data closer to where it originated (ultra-low latency) and also attain data sovereignty, and increase data privacy through lowering the cost of transmission.
In addition, augmented reality and virtual reality are reshaping how we interact with technology and information, creating immersive experiences that feel and look just like real life. We’re also witnessing significant progress in areas such as gene editing, which will decrease the incidence of genetic diseases ranging from hereditary diseases, such as cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy and may even extend our lifespans.
